What Role can I choose in Hammond's?
In Hammond's Regiment we have lots of different roles you may choose. Here are a few ideas:
This is probably the only section that you cannot enter straight from joining.
The officers of the regiment have been members of the regiment often for many years, and have developed a collection of skills that make them highly effective in controlling the regiment. However, officer appointments are based upon merit and take account of skills learned in the rank and file. |
Hammond's musketeers are the best trained musketeers in the Sealed Knot, and probably the whole of the reenactor world! Would you like to join this growing group?
Our Officers can help you understand what is required from you to become one of the best, and you can rest assured that Hammond's Regiment have lots of ways to support you through the early stages of training. |
Considered as the primary weapon of a seventeenth century regiment the pike is a challenging weapon that is quick to learn, but may take many years to master. Being a pikeman requires physical and mental strength as the engagements can be aggressive and protracted. Saying that we have one of the finest pike fighting units in the Sealed Knot Society, and their sense of team spirit is a wonderful thing to behold. Care to join that group?

We are very fortunate to have an artillery piece in the regiment, and her name is Sweaty Betty. The artillery is a particularly devastating weapon with potential for changing the outcomes of battles.
The safe working of an Artillery piece is controlled by an experienced Gun Captain, and you will join a team of up to seven gunners working the cannon, smoothly, efficiently and with deadly effect. |
We also have these non-combatant roles:
Hammond's drummers are the pride of our regiment. Their stirring beats get tired legs marching again on the way home from a long battle. Our drummers use their drums to relay orders, to control the speed of the regiment on the march, and we drill our weapons in time with the drummers beat. So if you think about it - they're vital!

We need the support of the Camp followers to allow us to fight effectively as a unit. Camp followers provide many different support roles, and also portray cameo roles for those that like 'hamming it up'. They are the seventeenth century equivalent of the Medical & Logistics corps of the British Army today.

We have specialists in our regiment that enjoy living the way that people of the seventeenth century did, and spend their time sharing that knowledge with the visiting public. You can still have a combat role if you wish, and then return to the Living History camp later. Our regiment has a Living History camp at the centre of its regimental events.
